originally written around 1968 under the title ' Get a line on you ', the song was first recorded as a demo with Leon Russell , but it was never completed , later Jagger and Richards reworked it into ' Shine a Light ' ,
the lyrics reflect Brian Jones' struggles with drug addiction and mental health in his final years , after his death in 1969, the song was completed as a tribute to him ,
